SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN – Closing 31 July.

Geelong Writers invite writers to submit to our 2021 General Anthology.

This year the anthology will include five genres:

  • Flash fiction (300 word limit)
  • Short-story (1500 word limit)
  • Poetry (300 word limit)
  • Memoir (1500 word limit)
  • Horror (can be in any style – with limits applying as above)

Prizes will be awarded for the best writing in each genre.

The short-story, poetry, memoir, and science fiction genres do not have a set theme.

The submission deadline is midnight Saturday 31 July 2021

Submission Guidelines:

  • You must be a Geelong Writers member to submit. Become a member here; 
  • Entry is free for Paid Members;
  • There is a $5 entry fee per submission for Free Members. Payment can be made via bank transfer;    
  • Submissions are restricted to two pieces per genre per author. Authors can submit a total of up to 10 pieces across the five genres (two per genre). We will not accept all 10 in one genre;
  • All submissions must use Times New Roman font;
  • All must use 12-point font size;
  • Double spacing (exceptions with concrete poetry);
  • Pages must be numbered;
  • Our house style is Australian Standard: singular quotations and Australian spelling;
  • Include a header with the title of your work;
  • Your name should not appear anywhere on your work as the pieces will be assessed anonymously;
  • Submit work via our form as a word document (.doc or docx format);
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but you must inform us if a piece is accepted elsewhere;
  • No previously published work allowed (personal blog and social media posts excepted).
